Subtleties of Facilitating Circle in Forest Therapy

A four-day gathering. A council with the
more-than-human world

Sharing, deep listening, and meeting challenging situations. A self-directed course with Nadine Mazzola.

Circle asks the guide to hold space with care and, at the same time, not to hold it too tightly, and that balance is where most of the difficulty lives. This course works through the subtle craft of gathering, sharing, and listening, including what to do when a group brings something you weren’t expecting.

Who it's for

This course is for Forest Therapy and Forest Bathing guides who want to cultivate their facilitation of circle.

It is especially for guides who want:
– to feel steadier in the moments when circle goes somewhere unplanned
– more range than one sharing format and one way of holding it
– a wider toolbox for difficult situations, before one arrives
– to carry other people’s hard stories lightly enough to keep guiding
– to feel present and easeful rather than watchful

What you'll experience

A self-paced video course covering the finer aspects of circle, drawn from years of guiding.

You’ll work with:
– multiple ways to express and hold omni-partiality
– the aspects of body language that support circle
– leaning into the importance of the pause
– noticing what the more-than-human world is sharing while you facilitate
– building headroom for difficult situations
– being ready to listen without taking on the difficult stories of others
– strengthening group dynamics
– tips for different parts of the Standard Sequence
– a review of sharing formats and their effects
– holding space for grief

What makes this different

Most training on circle teaches a format. This course attends to what happens inside the format — the second before you speak, where your hands are, how a group settles or doesn’t, what the trees are doing while someone talks. Nadine Mazzola has been guiding and mentoring guides for ten years and brings training in expressive arts, somatics, and embodied leadership to the material, along with lived experience of the kinds of grief that show up in circles. The teaching stays practical throughout, aimed at what you’ll do on your next walk.

Why join us

Circle is where a walk gathers itself, and where a guide feels most exposed. When you have room to move, more formats, more ways to hold, a sense of what to do when something heavy lands you can stay present instead of managing. Guides describe this as headroom, and it’s the difference between a walk you get through and one you’re actually in.
