Daintree Rainforest, Queensland, Australia

Tamara Scenna is the first certified Forest Therapy guide in the Daintree Rainforest located in Tropical North Queensland.

After 20 years of office-based work in chaotic Sydney, Tamara relocated to the small off-grid Daintree Coast community in 2021 in an attempt to find a slower pace of life and better work/life balance with her husband and two teenage children. The move was preceded by taking a year of slow travel in a caravan around Australia and then the pressure to return to the office and ‘the way things were’ as COVID eased.

Following the move, Tamara co-founded and continues to manage Daintree Siesta, a small family-owned, multi-faceted tourism business which offers accommodation, campground, on-site rainforest walking tracks and a licenced restaurant - in the heart of the oldest tropical rainforest in the world. …But working in a 24/7 business and living on site meant that the boundaries were blurred and finding time to slow down seemed near impossible. Then she discovered Forest Therapy.

After completing training with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), Tamara is now leading Rainforest Connections Forest Therapy Walks. During the facilitated group walk guests are able to spend a few hours connecting to the rainforest on a deeper level during their holiday. Ultimately it is about taking time to slow down and reconnect with yourself and nature - a skill that many of us have lost.

One recent participant said ‘‘If you think you don’t have the time for this experience, then you probably have the most to gain from it. Make the time, do it.’

Now that she has found a way to slow down amidst the trees, Tamara is excited to share this practice with guests holidaying in the ancient Daintree Rainforest - whilst also highlighting the unique Daintree Rainforest where it is possible to connect with an ancient tree, spot a cassowary or follow a vibrant blue ulysses butterfly in your wanders.

Tamara and her family look forward to welcoming you to Daintree Siesta for a few days to relax, slow down and truly discover the rainforest.
