A small patch of backyard woods was my wilderness world as a child. It was a place to explore and play, a place to encounter forest denizens (particularly of the six-legged variety), to listen to birds, to observe the bloom times of flowers, to forage on wild berries, to smell the rich earth enhanced by the decomposing leaves of ash and maple trees. Growing up, I had no idea of the extent that the forest would influence my life and career path.
For more than four decades, I’ve connected people and nature through my work as a naturalist, field instructor, hiking guide, writer and ANFT Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide. My work has been recognized with numerous honors including Montana Audubon’s Educator of the Year Award, and magazine writing awards from Outdoor Writers Association of America and National Wildlife Federation. I’m the author of the award-winning children’s book, What I Saw in Glacier.
